Monster Pot

Materials needed:
paper: build projects on paper like a place mat. The clay won’t stick as easily to paper.
“tools”
gather “tools” from around the house that could make fun textures in clay. In this video we are using a fork, spoon, straw, and toothpick.
Instructions:
take the large ball of clay and pinch and rotate the clay, making a bowl shape. DON’T go too thin!
Flip the bowl on it’s side and flatten the bottom so that it will stand on it’s own.
take the smaller piece of clay and start to create details.
remember to score (rough up the clay) and slip (add a tiny bit of water) before adding clay parts onto the monster pot. This helps the clay bits stick better to our pot.
ideas to add to your monster: eyes, teeth, hair, unicorn horns, etc
Parents, please make sure pieces are pressed on well.
We want to see your finished work! Please tag us on Instagram @hollowedearth so that we can show off your masterpieces!
Once you are finished with your pieces, they can start to dry.
Each piece is glazed one color: Choose from green, blue, clear, black, and sand. Please make a note.
Want the project to last longer? Choose to have your monster pot unglazed. We’ll still fire it to make it strong and then you can paint it at home!
The you are finished with your projects, you can drop them off for firing between 10-11am on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Your monster pots will be ready to pick up in two weeks!
Transporting tips: Clay is a bit brittle as it dries. We recommend using a towel as a “bed” for the finished projects. Please make sure that we have the forms for each piece so that we know the color and person that each project belongs to.
